Assist.Prof. (PhD) Ayşe Candan Şimşek
I received my Ph.D. from Cornell University and I currently work as an Assistant Professor at Yaşar University Psychology Department. My primary research interest is perception of visual scenes. I study frame of reference, viewpoint dependence, memory for spatial details in dynamic visual scenes as well as event segmentation. I also conduct research on rapid serial visual presentation with dynamic images, short-term memory for biological motion and scene perception in movies.
Graduate Student Researchers
Tolgahan Aydın
I am a master’s degree student at Yaşar University. I am interested in cognitive and experimental psychology. My future interests include top-down processing, spatial memory, temporal perception in dynamic scenes and memory in dynamic scenes and viewpoint dependency of memory. Currently, I am working on Perspective Memory Project.
Ezgi Nur Cürgül
I am studying for my Master’s degree in Psychology at Yasar University. I am currently writing my thesis about attractiveness perception. I am interested with cognitive and development psychology. Currently, I am taking part in the project about perspective taking and object memory at the Psychology Laboratory.
Merve Dayangaç
Currently, I am a master’s degree student at Yasar University in General Psychology. I am interested in cognitive psychology and experimental psychology areas. The main subject of my thesis is categorical color perception. In the laboratory, I study spatial perspective-taking projects and biological and non-biological motion projects.
Nazif Karaca
I got my bachelor degree from Yasar University. I got accepted to Yasar University with full-tuition scholarship and currently a master’s student. I am currently part-time BAP project assistant and working with Asst. Prof Ayşe Candan Şimşek on RSVP (Rapid Serial Visual Presentation). Melis Kınık
I’ve graduated from Yaşar University, Department of Psychology in 2020 at the top of my class. As a master’s student at the same university, I specialize in cognitive and experimental psychology in my master’s thesis supervised by Prof. Dr. Emre Özgen. Parallel to my thesis topic, the psychology of art stands out among my fields of interest. At the same time, she works as a research assistant in two projects conducted by Dr. Ayşe Candan Şimşek.
Elif Kurum
I received my bachelor’s degree as the second highest-ranking student in Psychology from Yaşar University. I am currently studying for a master’s degree in General Psychology at Yaşar University. My primary research interests are language and cognition. I focus on bilingualism, frame of reference, viewpoint dependence as well as event segmentation. I am currently writing my thesis on the spatial perspective-taking ability in bilingual and monolingual children.
Ayça Paksoy
I graduated from Yaşar University, Department of Psychology in 2019 as the top-scoring student in the department. During my undergraduate education, I did a double major in Public Relations and Advertising. Currently, under the supervision of Assoc. Dr. Ayşe Candan Şimşek, I am conducting my master thesis about the effects of product placements on children’s visual perception and memory. Also, I am involved in the projects “Short-term Memory for Biological Motion: An Application of the RSVP Procedure to Dynamic Visual images” and “Restorative Effects of Virtual Nature on the Emotional Well-Being of Community-Dwelling Older Adults”.

Arda Aksel
I am a second year undergraduate student in Yaşar University Psychology Department. I am interested in Cognitive Psychology and perception. I plan to continue to my academic carrier in Cognitive Psychology.
Rabia Yağmur Özduran
I am currently a senior undergraduate student at Yasar University Psychology department. Thanks to the various internships I did while I was still studying, I had the opportunity to gain different perspectives in both academia and practice. Currently, I am working as a research assistant as a part of the Scientific Research Project (BAP) with the supervision of Asst. Prof. Ayşe Candan Şimşek to improve my experimental skills and to achieve a more comprehensive understanding of the perception of visual scenes in the cognitive field.
Sude Sarayköylü
I am currently a senior student at Yasar University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. During my time here, I am working as a research assistant for the university’s Scientific Research Project department (BAP). Under the supervision of Dr. Simsek, I work to decipher how perceptions of visual representations operate, and constantly improve my experimental skills. Going forward, I would like to not only broaden my general understanding of human psychology but further specialize on cognitive psychology, within a laboratory environment.
Elanur Ulakçı
I am a second-year student in Yaşar University, in the department of Psychology. I’m interested in cognitive psychology and behavioral neuroscience subfields of Psychology. Currently, I work in the GoPro study as a volunteer, especially taking an active role in stimulus generation.

I graduated from Yasar University in 2021. I am a clinical, social, and intercultural psychology master’s degree student at the University of Padua. My research interests are intergroup contact, prejudice, and perceptual load. Currently, I am working on “The Role of Perceptual Load in Spatial Memory for Complex Dynamic Scenes” project.
Furkan Ekiz
I am 23 years ol. I am a fourth grade psychology student at Yaşar University. I did my internship in a private clinic in the 2020-2021 academic year. Since the 2021-2022 academic year, I have been involved in the RSVP project carried out by Associate Professor Ayşe Candan Şimşek.
